PT Suri Tani Pemuka, Indonesia (2)
The favorable Indonesian climate and water conditions allows farmers to reap at least two shrimp harvests per year. In combination with the growing demand for shrimp, this has inspired our client PT Suri Tani Pemuka to turn some of its fish farming infrastructure into more profitable shrimp farms.
Recently the company deciced to convert its barramundi farm in Banyuwangi, East Java, into an additional shrimp production unit. The existing infrastructure with earthen ponds, concrete and fiberglass tanks gives the new farm management the opportunity to study the impact of these different culture types on the growth and performance of shrimp.
Adapting a fish farm to shrimp culture entails interesting challenges and surprising opportunities.
